Chiang Mai Excursions
There are TONS of trips to take outside of Chiang Mai, you will never run out of things to do. I personally believe that the elephant and tiger tourism industries are inhumane and wanted to avoid them at all cost. Do your own research but if you want to read more about elephants in Thailand and their protection/ where to work with them in a safe way check out this link here.
We enjoyed some time out of the city center surrounded by nature instead!
If there is one "must see" thing in Chiang Mai it's Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. You can catch a red taxi bus to 150 baht one way up the mountain. You might wait a bit for the truck to fill up but its really your cheapest option. About 30 minutes drive out of the city center you're high up in trees enjoying the beautiful sites of this incredible temple.
Something that not everyone sees in Chiang Mai is Wat Pha Lad. The taxis don't even include this on their list of stops because apparently not many know the beauty that is hiding around this hidden temple and gardens.. On the way down from Doi Suthep we asked our taxi driver to stop and let us out. It doesn't look like much but when you walk down the path you end up in this lush forested paradise that is also a meditation retreat. You can enjoy as much as you like and then flag down another red taxi to take you home.
Besides these two places we also enjoyed the Zip-lining with Jungle Flight! I wasn't able to take any photos but it was so much fun and very safe :). Other ideas include trekking trips, day trips to Chiang Rai, rafting, and so much more! Chiang Mai is incredible!
