American Turned Expat
One of the first questions I'm asked by both french and other expats alike is:
"What brings you to Paris?"
I am never really sure how to answer this question. The simple answer is that I came because I love Paris and with a European passport in hand, I am free to be here!
I came to learn french and to gain international experience. I came because the Parisian culture and lifestyle fascinate me. I came because I love the challenges of being a foreigner. I love being in a big city. I love Paris.
Despite all the worried looks and lingering questions about my future, the decision was extremely easy to make. I didn't see a future in the U.S., at least not for the next couple years. On one hand the hardest part about the move was convincing everyone that I was actually leaving. Making people believe that the decision to move half way across the world wasn't actually that crazy for me.
Even with the constant flow of advice to stay in America and continue on the path I was on, I quit my job that I loved, booked a flight for January 29, 2015, and headed off to the City of Lights to see what I could find for myself and my future.
